Ceuta to receive permanent centers for immigrant identification and deportation
The Spanish government has announced the establishment of permanent centers in Ceuta to identify and deport immigrants who do not have the right to remain in Spanish territory. Minister of Territorial Policy Ángel Víctor Torres stated that the immediate goal is to move a significant number of migrants from the streets into facilities where they can be processed.
The operation will utilize the provisional El Tarajal Temporary Center for Foreigners (CATE) as a central triage point. This move follows reports of thousands of deportations processed since August 10, amid high migratory pressure on the city. The government also faces the logistical challenge of managing the deportation of minors, who are subject to additional legal protections.
While the government has promised an “important push” in the coming days, specific details regarding the exact number of available places or a definitive deportation schedule have not yet been made public.
