Authorities in Spain are reporting a shift in human trafficking tactics, with criminal networks increasingly using the autonomous city of Ceuta as a maritime transit platform to bypass land border controls. The Asociación Unificada de Guardias Civiles (AUGC) warned that traffickers are now organizing direct sea routes from Ceuta to the Spanish mainland.

In a recent incident near the La Sirena cliffs in Ceuta, the Guardia Civil intercepted a recreational boat carrying seven migrants and two alleged pilots. During an attempt to evade authorities, the vessel capsized; however, no serious injuries were reported.

Separately, in Almería, the Policía Nacional arrested an Algerian national for allegedly piloting a 4.5-meter rigid boat that transported nine migrants from Algeria to the Spanish coast. Each migrant reportedly paid 3,500 euros for the journey. This arrest follows a similar incident involving a different pilot within the last ten days.
