Cezary Żak discusses career, new film roles, and political backlash
Polish actor Cezary Żak has discussed his career trajectory, recent projects, and the social consequences of his public remarks in a recent podcast interview.
Regarding his professional work, Żak is participating in a new film adaptation of Bolesław Prus’s ‘Lalka’, directed by Maciej Kawalski, which is scheduled for release on September 30, 2026. He also shared experiences working on the international production ‘Santo Subito!’, which features Mark Ruffalo and Charlotte Rampling.
Żak addressed the backlash he received following a political joke made during a Telewizja Polska programming conference. While appearing in character as the fictional president from the series ‘Ranczo’, he made a comment regarding the presidential veto power. The actor noted that while the remark caused laughter in the room, it triggered significant online criticism and highlighted deep societal polarization.
Reflecting on his future, the 65-year-old actor expressed intentions to gradually reduce his theatrical commitments—currently performing approximately 200 shows a year—to focus more on film, television, and directing, eventually moving toward retirement.
