CFE Calificados signs solar energy contract with Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners

CFE Calificados, a subsidiary of Mexico’s Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), has signed an electricity coverage contract with Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) to acquire clean energy from the La Esperanza Solar plant.

Located in Campeche and developed via the Growth Markets Fund II, the project features a solar generation capacity of 420 megawatts (MW). The facility includes an integrated Electrical Energy Storage System (SAEE) with a capacity of 150 MW, a five-hour discharge duration, and a total discharge energy of 750 MWh.

The agreement aims to supply renewable energy to large-scale industrial consumers in sectors such as automotive, petrochemical, and pharmaceutical. By combining solar generation with storage, the project intends to provide greater flexibility to the electrical system and support the increasing energy demand in the Yucatan Peninsula.
