CFE deploys 250 specialists to address power outages in Yucatán

The Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) has launched an intensive 31-day operation to rehabilitate and maintain electrical distribution networks in Mérida, Progreso, and Umán. Starting October 25 and running through November 25, a contingent of 250 technicians and specialists will work to mitigate frequent power outages in the region.

The operational plan involves five work groups divided into four priority sectors: Mérida Zone, Poniente, Umán Centro, and Progreso. Technical tasks include replacing damaged poles, performing corrective maintenance on transformers, repairing oil leaks, and correcting deficiencies in grounding systems and service connections. Additionally, crews will conduct preventive vegetation management by pruning trees that obstruct energized lines to prevent short circuits.

Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena initiated the operation, noting that the intervention follows requests made to President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo and CFE Director General Emilia Esther Calleja Alor. While the works aim to improve long-term reliability for homes and businesses, authorities warned that residents may experience brief, temporary power cuts during the maintenance maneuvers.
