CFE electricity outages spark protests in Mexico

Residents and livestock producers in Mexico are protesting persistent electricity failures and prolonged outages caused by the Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE).

In the 4 Caminos neighborhood, residents detained a CFE truck after facing nearly 24 hours without power. Neighbors reported frequent voltage fluctuations that have damaged household appliances, such as refrigerators. Some residents expressed concerns that the instability might be linked to operations at nearby Tren Maya facilities.

In the Tizimín and Sucilá regions, cattle ranchers reported being without electricity for three days, disrupting essential operations including irrigation systems, water pumps, and feed grinders. These producers stated that the outages have been a recurring issue for months, forcing them to pay for private electricians to investigate faults that should be addressed by the utility company.
