CFE expands electricity access in Baja California and faces tariff calls in BCS

In Baja California, recent developments highlight both infrastructure expansion and calls for tariff reform. The Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) has completed the connection of 198 new services in the El Olivo neighborhood of San Quintín, benefiting approximately 792 residents. This project was a collaborative effort between the Government of Baja California, which constructed the electrification works, and the CFE, which handled the interconnection to the electrical grid.

Separately, in Baja California Sur, Federal Deputy Francisco “Pancho” Pelayo Covarrubias has proposed that the CFE implement the 1F electricity tariff. He argued that the high temperatures in the region necessitate the constant use of air conditioning and fans, creating a heavy financial burden for families. Pelayo also noted that Baja California Sur operates on an autonomous system not connected to the national power grid, which contributes to frequent blackouts.
