CFE faces 30.8 billion peso budget cut amid Yucatán energy concerns

The Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) faces a proposed budget reduction of approximately 30.8 billion pesos for 2027, according to the Federal Expenditure Budget Project (PPEF). The budget is projected to drop from 554.5 billion pesos in 2026 to 523.7 billion pesos in 2027.

Specialists and political leaders in Yucatán have warned that this cut could exacerbate existing electricity supply issues and frequent power outages in the Yucatán Peninsula. Concerns include rising demand, infrastructure deficits, and a lack of specialized personnel.

In response, the Yucatán State Congress has reached a bipartisan agreement involving multiple political parties to demand 15 specific actions from the CFE and the Energy Agency. These measures aim to improve electricity distribution and service, emphasizing that urban growth must be accompanied by adequate energy infrastructure planning.
