CFE power failures leave families in Tamaulipas and Campeche without electricity or water

A failure in the Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE) left dozens of households in the northern colonias of Tampico and Ciudad Madero without electricity for three days. Residents reported spoiled food, loss of income for small vendors, and health risks for children and the elderly. One resident, Idalia Reyes Hernández, said, “Everything I bought has spoiled; it is unbearable to live without light.” The community threatened to protest at CFE offices until service is restored.

In a separate incident, a CFE outage in the capital of Campeche disabled the main pump that supplies water to several neighborhoods and subdivisions, including Jardines, Ampliación Cuatro Caminos, and Villa Real. The municipal water authority confirmed the interruption was caused by the loss of electricity, not by any fault in the hydraulic network, and is awaiting the utility’s restoration of power to resume water distribution.
