CFE power outages leave Yucatán villages without electricity and water
Residents of the Katab community in northern Yucatán reported nearly 24 hours without electricity and a loss of potable water after the federal utility CFE failed to restore service, despite pleas from local officials. The outage caused food spoilage and disrupted daily life for families relying on refrigeration.
In the nearby municipality of Progreso, a resident of San Bruno has been without power for a month after a utility line was damaged and not repaired. The prolonged blackout prevented the refrigeration of insulin needed for diabetes treatment and led to further food and medication losses. Both communities have filed complaints with CFE, calling for urgent restoration of service.
