CFE reorganizes structure into generation, networks, and commercial divisions
The Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE) has approved a major reorganization of its basic organic structure. The Board of Directors approved a plan to divide the company’s operations into three primary functional axes: generation, electrical networks, and commercial policy. This restructuring aims to align the national electrical system with objectives regarding energy justice, sustainable development, and an orderly transition.
Under the new structure, the Generation and External Producers Directorate will manage thermoelectric, renewable, hydroelectric, and geothermal technologies, led by Francisco Javier Maldonado Ramos. A new Electrical Networks Directorate will integrate transmission and distribution processes, headed by Guillermo Nevárez Elizondo. The third pillar, the Commercial Policy Directorate, will manage market strategy and the Wholesale Electricity Market, led by José Martín Mendoza Hernández.
Reports suggest the reorganization may also reflect internal political dynamics within the company. The return of former executives like Nevárez is viewed by some analysts as a move to consolidate influence within the utility amid reported friction between CFE leadership and the Ministry of Energy.
