CFE workers detained by residents in Mexico over infrastructure disputes

Residents in different Mexican communities have detained workers from the Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE) following disputes over electrical infrastructure and service failures.

In the ejido of Justicia Social, Escárcega, locals prevented CFE employees from leaving after they failed to fulfill previous agreements. The community is demanding the replacement of a transformer, repairs to faulty electrical lines, and the replacement of hazardous utility poles. Residents stated they will continue their protest until the agency sends sufficient personnel and equipment to resolve the issues.

In Totonicapa, specifically in San Felipe Orizatlán, residents have also held CFE personnel against their will. This conflict stems from disagreements regarding the placement of electrical poles, which locals claim were not installed in the agreed-upon locations. While there are unconfirmed reports of physical aggression against the workers, the exact number of detainees and their current condition remain unknown. Local authorities are expected to intervene to facilitate dialogue and ensure the safety of the staff.
