CFR Călători faces service shutdown over budget delays

The Romanian Railway Passenger Company (CFR Călători) is facing a potential shutdown of passenger services due to the lack of an approved budget for 2026. According to the railway workers' union federation (FNFMCV), 257 days have passed in the year without a finalized budget.

While the Ministry of Transport has completed its required tasks, the approval process is reportedly stalled within the Ministry of Finance. The union warned that the delay threatens essential funding for electricity, diesel, repairs, materials, and employee wages. The FNFMCV has called on the Ministry of Finance to finalize the procedure immediately and provide a public explanation, stating that rail transport cannot function under continuous crisis management.
