Romania advances major rail and highway infrastructure projects

Romania is undergoing significant transport infrastructure developments across its rail and road networks.

On the railway sector, CFR has announced the resumption of traffic between Tușnad Sat and Sânsimion following bridge repairs on the Brașov–Războieni line. Additionally, the rehabilitation of the Brașov–Sighișoara railway section has reached 61% completion, aiming to allow speeds of up to 160 km/h. Efforts are also underway to secure fire safety permits for the Constanța Railway Station.

In road infrastructure, several major projects are advancing. The A1 Sibiu–Pitești motorway (Tigveni–Curtea de Argeș section) has reached 99% physical completion, with opening pending safety tests for the Momaia tunnel. Meanwhile, the Margina–Holdea section of the A1 motorway has seen its tunnels fully breached, marking a major milestone for the Lugoj–Deva continuity, with physical progress exceeding 75%.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Transport has launched public debates regarding the technical-economic indicators for the 49.75 km Brașov–Făgăraș highway, an investment estimated at 9.35 billion lei. On the A3 motorway, traffic restrictions are in place in Sălaj county to facilitate works on the Suplacu de Barcău–Borș section.
