Italy's public sector workers win wage hikes in new central functions contract

Italy's public administration has finalized the national collective bargaining agreement for the Funzioni Centrali sector (2025‑2027). The contract, signed by major unions including CISL, CGIL and Confsal, covers roughly 200,000 state employees and was concluded before the previous agreement’s expiry, a first in recent years.

Key provisions grant salary increases of up to €160‑€221 per month, retroactive payments for 2025‑2026, and a minimum €7‑€8 meal‑voucher. The deal also introduces new clauses on artificial‑intelligence use in public jobs, more flexible holiday management, a psychophysical break, enhanced welfare measures, and stronger safeguards for workers with disabilities.

Regional sign‑offs, such as the Umbria agreement for about 2,500 staff, confirm the nationwide rollout. The contract is expected to improve purchasing power, address staff shortages and modernise public‑sector employment conditions.
