CGIL protests in Calabria over fatal caporalato killing of four Pakistani workers

The CGIL trade union organized a demonstration in Calabria on Saturday, starting from the service station where four Pakistani agricultural labourers were burned to death and marching to Amendolara. The protest highlighted the ongoing problem of caporalato – the illegal recruitment and exploitation of migrant workers – and called for the enforcement of existing anti‑trafficking laws.

Union leaders demanded stronger inspections, better housing and transport for migrant workers, and reforms to the immigration quota system that they say enable exploitation. They framed the protest as a plea for dignified work conditions and a stand against organised crime that benefits from the illicit labour market.
