CGT delegation meets Pope Leo XIV to discuss Argentina's economic crisis

A delegation from the Argentine General Confederation of Labor (CGT) met with Pope Leo XIV in the Vatican to discuss the country's socio-economic crisis. Union leaders, including Cristian Jerónimo and Gerardo Martínez, presented a document detailing the loss of purchasing power for workers and retirees, rising household debt, and the difficulty of securing stable employment under the current economic program of the Milei administration.

The delegation also raised concerns regarding the impact of artificial intelligence on the labor market, advocating for worker participation in technological transitions. Pope Leo XIV responded by calling for more human, sustainable, and solidary development models, emphasizing the need to protect vulnerable populations at risk of exclusion.

The meeting serves as a precursor to the Pope's scheduled visit to Argentina in November, which is part of a regional tour including Uruguay and Peru. A formal meeting between the Pope and union leaders is set for November 9 at the Universidad Católica Argentina in Puerto Madero.
