CGT labor union warns of job losses and plans protests in Argentina
The General Confederation of Labor (CGT) in Argentina is intensifying its opposition to the government of Javier Milei, citing severe economic distress and job losses. Cristian Jerónimo, a co-leader of the CGT, reported that 380,000 jobs have been lost and warned that the continuous closure of companies is reducing formal employment opportunities.
In response to the economic situation, the CGT is deliberating on a potential fifth general strike and planning new mobilizations. One planned protest targets the Ministry of Economy to highlight the plight of millions of indebted citizens. Reports indicate that approximately 5.3 million people are struggling to repay debts, many of which were taken out to purchase food. Additionally, the union has scheduled a mobilization for September 2 to protest the decline in industrial activity and employment.
