CGU completes inspection of Brazil's 2026 electoral system source codes

Technicians from the Office of the Comptroller General (CGU) have completed a two-day inspection of the source codes for the electoral systems to be used in the 2026 general elections. The audit took place on August 20 and 21 at the headquarters of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) in Brasília.

The inspection, part of the Democratic Transparency Cycle, involved examining the programming of electronic voting machines, vote collection modules, and the software used for the preparation, transmission, and totalization of results. Rodrigo Coimbra, head of the TSE's Computerized Voting Section, stated that providing access to the source code allows inspecting entities to understand how the programs function and ensures confidence in the security of the election.

Federal auditor Ricardo Peres noted that the participation of different branches of government and civil society strengthens the electoral process. The inspection follows previous audits by other institutions, such as the Prosecutor General's Office (PGR) and the National Council of the Public Ministry (CNMP). Oversight continues until the digital signature and sealing ceremony of the electoral systems.
