Chad addresses humanitarian crises through social budgeting and UN aid

Chad is addressing critical humanitarian and social challenges through new budgetary planning and international aid. In N’Djamena, the Ministry of Social Action, Solidarity and Humanitarian Affairs (MASSAH) has launched a workshop to prepare the 2027-2029 medium-term expenditure framework. This initiative aims to align public resources with the ‘Tchad Connexion 2030’ national development plan, focusing on child protection, women's empowerment, and support for vulnerable populations. The process involves collaboration with partners such as UNICEF and the World Bank.

Simultaneously, the United Nations has mobilized $7 million to combat a dual crisis in the Lake Province. This funding, provided by the Central Emergency Response Fund ($4 million) and the West and Central Africa Regional Humanitarian Fund ($3 million), targets recent population displacements and a cholera outbreak. Over 75,000 people have been forced to flee their homes due to violence from non-state armed groups, seeking refuge in various sub-prefectures. The health crisis has been exacerbated by a cholera epidemic that has resulted in dozens of cases and several deaths across multiple health districts, including Bol and Bagassola.
