Overview
Chad is implementing strategic budgetary and administrative reforms to address escalating humanitarian challenges. Regarding the influx of refugees from the Sudan conflict, the United Nations has welcomed the Sudanese government’s decision to extend the opening of the Adré border crossing through December 31, 2026. UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Tom Fletcher described the corridor as a “vital and indispensable artery” for delivering food, water, and medical assistance to populations affected by the Darfur conflict.
To support these intensifying needs, the UN Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) has allocated $9 million in emergency funding to Chad. This follows previous mobilization efforts and aims to address the combined pressures of refugee influxes, internal displacement, and food insecurity. These developments occur as humanitarian agencies continue to shift toward a ‘vulnerability-based assistance model’ due to significant reductions in international funding.
