Chad census reaches 62% of households three weeks after launch

Three weeks after the official start of Chad’s third General Census of Population and Housing (RGPH‑3) on 21 June, the national coordination team announced that 2 572 000 households have been enumerated, representing 62.19 % of the 4 135 443 households targeted. The progress was presented by the census coordinator, Dr Madjigoto Robert, who credited the work of field agents, the support of President Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno and the government, as well as technical and financial partners.

In parallel with counting settled households, mobile teams continue to enumerate nomadic populations, and a separate effort to register refugees has begun with partner assistance. The ad‑hoc complaints committee has reviewed 11 cases to date, providing responses to concerns raised in the field. While logistical and technical difficulties persist in some areas, the coordination team says daily monitoring and corrective measures are in place. The census operation will run until 21 July, with authorities urging remaining households to cooperate with enumerators.
