Chad implements agricultural tax exemptions and export bans

The Chadian government has implemented new economic measures to bolster food security and support the domestic agricultural sector.

The Ministry of Finance, Budget, Economy, Planning and International Cooperation has issued a decree exempting various food and agricultural products from import duties and taxes. This exemption applies to human food staples such as wheat, maize, millet, rice, and various cereal flours. Additionally, the measure covers animal feed products, including forage seeds and fodder, as well as essential agricultural and hydraulic equipment like drilling and pumping machinery.

Simultaneously, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry has banned the export of several essential agricultural commodities to ensure sufficient supply for the domestic market. The export ban covers millet, maize, rice, sorghum, and wheat, as well as cotton seeds and peanut-derived products. Exceptions remain for the export of sesame, peanuts, and cotton fiber, though other products require express authorization from the Ministry of Commerce.
