Chad implements initiatives for animal health and food safety

In N'Djamena, Chad, various stakeholders are engaging in initiatives to strengthen animal health and food safety standards. From September 8 to 11, 2026, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) hosted a training session on Good Emergency Management Practices (GEMP) for 34 veterinary and health officials. The program aims to improve the country's ability to prevent and respond to transboundary animal diseases and zoonoses, which is critical given Chad's livestock population of over 156 million animals.

Separately, on September 2 and 3, 2026, the Chadian Agency for Standardization (ATNOR), supported by the Ministry of Trade and Industry and Swiss Cooperation, held a national seminar on the ISO 22000:2018 food safety management systems. The seminar included participation from the citizen movement Tchad Da Hagina Koulina (TDHK), focusing on food quality, consumer protection, and the standardization of food safety protocols to improve public health and dignity.
