Chad food safety and animal health initiatives

Chad is undertaking several initiatives to strengthen food safety and animal health standards. In early September 2026, the Chadian Standardization Agency (ATNOR) conducted a national seminar in N’Djamena focused on the ISO 22000:2018 standard. This effort aims to improve the quality and competitiveness of agrifood products in international markets by implementing food safety management systems to control risks from production to distribution.

Parallel to these standardization efforts, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) organized training for veterinary and health officials on Good Emergency Management Practices (GEMP). This program is designed to enhance the country’s capacity to prevent and respond to zoonoses and transboundary animal diseases, a priority given Chad’s livestock population. These combined efforts involve various stakeholders, including government ministries, international organizations, and local citizen movements, to improve public health and consumer protection.
