Chad raises military alert after accusing Sudan of cross-border air strikes
Chad has raised its military alert level to the maximum following accusations that the Sudanese army conducted air strikes within Chadian territory. Chadian security sources report that Sudanese aircraft and drones targeted a military convoy more than 100 km inside the eastern Ennedi region last week.
In a separate incident, an air strike on a fuel market used by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) reportedly killed 12 people and injured seven. Chad has responded to the perceived drone threat by deploying approximately 100 armored vehicles and signal-jamming trucks near the border town of Tine.
Sudan’s foreign ministry has denied targeting Chadian territory, stating its forces are fulfilling their duty to protect Sudanese sovereignty and expressing surprise at the allegations made without an independent investigation. The United States embassy in Khartoum also condemned the strikes.
The tensions occur amid a three-year civil war in Sudan between the army and the RSF. While UN experts have suggested Chad serves as a route for UAE weapons to reach the RSF, both Chad and the UAE have denied these claims. The African Union has called for restraint to prevent the conflict from escalating further across regional borders.
