CHAEVI to pilot Plug and Charge for public rapid EV chargers

CHAEVI has been selected by the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment to conduct the first pilot operation of Plug and Charge (PnC) services for public rapid chargers. Starting in late October, the company will implement PnC technology on 30 public rapid charging stations to test service stability and compatibility.

PnC is an international standard technology that allows a vehicle and charger to automatically exchange authentication information. This enables the charging and payment processes to occur immediately upon connecting the connector, eliminating the need for manual card authentication or on-site payment steps.

To enhance security during the automated authentication process, the pilot chargers will be equipped with Hardware Security Module (HSM) chips to protect and encrypt sensitive data. CHAEVI intends to leverage its previous experience, including its 'Baro CHAEVI' service and its integration with Hyundai Motor Group’s PnC services, to ensure a reliable public service. The government plans to expand PnC support to more public chargers based on the results of this pilot.
