Following the fire in Sithonia, Chalkidiki, Greek authorities are planning immediate interventions to prevent secondary disasters. A key focus is the cleaning of local streams to mitigate the risk of flooding and soil erosion during the upcoming autumn rains, as the loss of vegetation increases surface runoff.

Deputy Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Kostas Katsafados and Minister of Rural Development and Food Margaritis Schoinas are scheduled to attend a meeting at the Kassandra Town Hall to assess damages and plan restoration. A study is currently being conducted to map the paths and outlets of local streams and to estimate the necessary funding for these works.

Additionally, the Kassandra Forestry Service has initiated the process for funding anti-erosion and flood prevention projects. Preliminary documents have been submitted to the Green Fund in Athens to secure the necessary financial resources for these critical environmental protections.
