Overview

Following the August 13, 2026, fire in the Sibiiri area of the Kassandra Municipality, regional authorities in Chalkidiki have initiated recovery and prevention measures.

On August 19, 2026, Deputy Minister Konstantinos Katsafados announced 3.5 million euros for infrastructure restoration, split between the Municipality of Kassandra (2.5 million euros) and the Chalkidiki Regional Unit (1 million euros). Minister of Rural Development Margaritis Schoinas noted that approximately 10,000 properties were saved, calling the response a ‘feat of coordination.’

For citizen compensation, basic necessity allowances (600 euros) and household appliance support (2,000 to 6,000 euros) will be distributed within 10 days of municipality requests. State aid covers 100% of reconstruction for ‘yellow’ or ‘red’ classified homes, while businesses may receive up to 60% support.

On August 27, 2026, Chalkidiki Vice Governor Ioannis Koufidis coordinated an open meeting at the Kassandra Town Hall to assist Sivri farmers. The session focused on activating procedures to record and assess damages to plant and animal production under ELGA regulations and the State Financial Aid Regulation (KOE). Affected farmers were instructed to submit claims and documentation to the ELGA representative in Kassandra to facilitate the use of institutional and financial tools for agricultural recovery.
