Chan Mei-kam announces 1.5 million HKD funeral plan for late mother

Chan Mei-kam, the eldest son of the late singer Chan Mei-ying's mother, Chan Mei-kam (also known as Mei Ma), held a press conference in Causeway Bay to discuss funeral arrangements. He announced plans for a grand funeral costing approximately 1.5 million HKD, which includes a permanent grave at Tseung Kwan O Chinese Permanent Cemetery, a funeral hall, and religious services.

Despite the high budget, Chan Mei-kam admitted he is currently unemployed with zero income and has not yet paid for the services, stating that the funds are “a secret” and he is waiting for the right timing. He also addressed family disputes, denying allegations of financial misconduct or forging leases, and dismissed claims that the grand funeral contradicts his mother's wishes, asserting she was not in a clear state of mind in her later years.

The announcement has sparked significant tension within the family. Other relatives and associates, including Pan Xiaowen, have challenged his authority to manage the arrangements, claiming that a will exists designating the grandchildren as the executors of the estate. There are conflicting reports regarding whether the funeral should be a low-key affair as previously intended by the deceased.
