Chinese car makers roll out new electric models in Indonesia

Changan Indonesia has launched the Deepal S05 SUV, offering both a Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) and a Range‑Extended Electric Vehicle (REEV) version. The REEV uses a 1.5‑litre gasoline engine solely as a generator to recharge the battery, allowing the car to run on electric power without range anxiety. The model is priced around IDR 500 million and features a futuristic crossover design, with dimensions of 4.62 m length, 1.90 m width and a 2.88 m wheelbase. After‑sales trainer Dwi Setiyoko said the REEV simplifies production and reduces cost compared with conventional plug‑in hybrids.

Meanwhile, BAIC Indonesia announced that it will soon introduce its first full‑electric vehicle to the Indonesian market, building on the success of its hybrid BJ30, whose sales nearly doubled in the second quarter of 2026. Chief Operating Officer Dhani Yahya emphasized a “Hybrid today, electric tomorrow” strategy, positioning the upcoming EV as the next step in the company’s portfolio expansion in Indonesia.
