Changan launches Deepal S5 plug‑in hybrid SUV in Europe

Chinese automaker Changan has introduced the Deepal S05 plug‑in hybrid SUV for the European market. The model combines a 172 kW (234 hp) electric motor with a 1.5‑litre gasoline engine, delivering a system output of 190 kW (258 hp) and four operating modes (EV, PHEV, REEV, ICE). Its 18.4 kWh battery provides an electric range of up to 100 km (WLTP) and a total WLTP range of up to 1,060 km. Fast DC charging up to 55 kW can raise the state of charge from 30 % to 80 % in about 15 minutes. Pricing in Germany starts at €35,990 for the base version, with an introductory offer of €24,990 (including up to €4,500 state subsidies) valid through 31 August. Deliveries are scheduled from the end of July, and Changan currently operates eight dealerships in Germany and around 200 across Europe. The vehicle’s design was led by Klaus Zyciora, former design chief at Volkswagen, at Changan’s European design centre in Turin. In Greece the model is promoted for its low CO₂ emissions (47 g/km), tax advantages and corporate‑use benefits, featuring a digital cockpit, advanced driver‑assistance systems and Vehicle‑to‑Load capability.

The launch reflects Changan’s strategy to bypass EU tariffs on fully electric cars by offering a plug‑in hybrid that remains tariff‑free, positioning the Deepal S05 as a competitively priced, long‑range alternative in the C‑segment SUV market.
