Changhua County Magistrate election registration begins amid candidate uncertainty

The race for the Changhua County Magistrate position is intensifying as candidates begin the registration process. Former Vice Magistrate Ko Cheng-fang recently shared a photo of a candidate registration form delivered to his home by supporters, stating that while he is not making an immediate decision, the public expectation is something he must take seriously. His comments follow controversy within the Kuomintang (KMT) regarding the party's decision to bypass a primary and instead recruit Wei Ping-cheng for the nomination.

Meanwhile, independent candidate Chiu Chien-fu, who previously left the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), has officially collected his registration forms. Chiu revealed that he received a phone call from a presidential policy advisor urging him to reconsider his candidacy, though he declined to name the individual or the specific details of the conversation. Chiu maintained that he remains committed to his decision to run.

Other candidates include DPP nominee Chen Su-yueh, who is scheduled to complete registration on September 2, and KMT nominee Wei Ping-cheng, who is focusing on grassroots outreach and social welfare platforms.
