Chania Book Festival Marks Fifth Edition with International Participation

The 5th Chania Book Festival took place in Crete from 22 to 28 June 2026, organized by the Municipality of Chania with the Region of Crete and supported by the Hellenic Parliament and the Ministry of Culture. The week‑long program featured about 450 events across 18 city venues, including discussions, book presentations, workshops, performances, film screenings and concerts.

The festival attracted more than 630 unique participants from 35 countries, with over 230 attendees from 18 nations and 30 distinguished foreign authors and scholars. The central theme, “Worlds in Conflict,” guided more than 130 thematic discussions addressing democracy, history, memory, geopolitics, social change, technology and translation. Organisers highlighted the event’s growing role as a hub for writers, translators, publishers, academics and readers, reinforcing Crete’s cultural profile on the international stage.
