Chania launches 20.7 million euro restoration of Venetian Neoria

The Municipality of Chania has launched the tender process for the restoration, enhancement, and repurposing of the seven Venetian Neoria in the Old Town of Chania. With a budget exceeding 20.7 million euros, this initiative is described by local authorities as the largest cultural heritage project in the city's history.

The project is the result of long-term collaboration between the Municipality of Chania, the Municipal Port Fund, the Ministry of Culture, the Technical University of Crete, and the Region of Crete. The tender process follows the approval of the declaration terms by the Chania Municipal Committee.

According to the project timeline, the deadline for submitting bids is October 20, 2026. Work is expected to commence in October 2027 and is projected to last for three years. This restoration follows the recent completion of the Municipal Market project, part of a broader strategy to revitalize the city's most significant historical monuments.
