A record 781 migrants arrived in the United Kingdom via small boats on a single Wednesday, marking the highest daily total for 2026. Despite this spike, total crossings for the year stand at approximately 18,600, which represents a 42% decrease compared to the same period in 2025.

Authorities noted that migrants appear to be “changing their tactics” in response to increased enforcement by British and French officials. This includes utilizing new routes, such as departures from Normandy, which is significantly further west than traditional crossing points. One vessel reportedly spent over 33 hours at sea.

In the United Kingdom, the surge in arrivals has coincided with protests in southern England. British officials have expressed a commitment to targeting smuggling operations, while French authorities reported a fatality involving a man who suffered a cardiac arrest during a boarding attempt near Boulogne-sur-Mer.
