Charité Berlin hospital suffers data breach via cyberattack

The Charité university hospital in Berlin has confirmed a cyberattack on its web servers, resulting in the theft of personal contact information. The breach affected employees, students, and external contacts, including individuals who used web contact forms to request appointments.

Stolen data includes first and last names, email addresses, and potentially organizational affiliations. For employees, usernames may also have been compromised. The hospital stated that sensitive medical records were not affected by this specific incident, and clinical operations continued without disruption.

In response to the attack, the Charité isolated the affected servers and closed the identified entry point used by the hackers. The institution has reported the incident to regulatory and investigative authorities and filed a criminal complaint. The hospital plans to notify all affected individuals directly and advises them to remain vigilant against suspicious communications, such as targeted phishing attempts.
