Charlyn Corral wins Gerd Müller Trophy at Ballon d'Or gala
Mexican footballer Charlyn Corral has made history by becoming the first player from Mexico, in either the men's or women's category, to receive an award at the Ballon d'Or ceremony. Playing for Pachuca, the 35-year-old striker was awarded the Gerd Müller Trophy in London, recognizing her as the best forward of the year after scoring 49 goals in 49 matches.
Corral expressed deep emotion during the event, noting that while she arrived without high expectations of public recognition, her statistics justified her presence among the world's elite. She shared the stage with other football stars, including Harry Kane, who received the same recognition in the men's category.
Upon her return to Mexico, Corral addressed her career and the challenges she faced, including periods where she felt undervalued. She emphasized her desire to inspire young girls to pursue football without limits, stating that the true competition lies abroad and that Mexican athletes should support one another rather than compete against each other.
