Chega accepts terms for Luís Neves inquiry commission

The Chega party has agreed to the conditions set by the President of the Assembly of the Republic to proceed with a parliamentary inquiry commission regarding Luís Neves’s leadership of the Polícia Judiciária.

José Pedro Aguiar-Branco, President of the Assembly, approved nine of the eleven themes originally requested by Chega. Two themes were excluded: one concerning alleged interference by Neves’s son in journalistic activities, which Aguiar-Branco stated lacked a demonstrated link to Neves’s official duties, and another regarding potential conflicts of interest with unidentified entities.

Chega leader André Ventura announced the decision to accept the nine approved themes to ensure the commission is established quickly, aiming to begin before the discussion of the upcoming State Budget. Ventura stated that the party chose this intermediate point to prevent what he described as attempts by other parties to block the investigation.
