Senegal prepares for Gamou 2026 with religious dialogue and infrastructure upgrades

Senegal is preparing for the 2026 Gamou religious celebrations, with significant focus on national cohesion and infrastructure readiness. Prime Minister Ahmadou Al Aminou Mohamed Lô has initiated a series of visits to religious leaders, including a meeting with Archbishop André Guèye in Dakar, to reaffirm the state's support for religious communities and promote social stability.

To accommodate the expected influx of millions of pilgrims, Sonatel is deploying extensive technical measures across religious centers such as Tivaouane, Kaolack, and Ndiassane. These include increasing 5G, 4G+, and 3G capacities, installing mobile base stations, and expanding fiber optic access. The telecommunications group is also providing social support through the distribution of water and medical supplies.

Spiritually, the Khalife General of the Tidianes, Serigne Babacar Sy Mansour, has set the theme for Gamou 2026 as 'Unicity' (Tawhid), emphasizing social cohesion and religious values. Additionally, the DER/FJ is engaging with religious communities in Tivaouane to support local economic initiatives and entrepreneurship for women and youth.
