Monaco withdraws from €55m Lamine Camara transfer to Chelsea
The transfer of Senegalese midfielder Lamine Camara from AS Monaco to Chelsea has collapsed following a dramatic deadline-day reversal. Despite reaching a full written club-to-club agreement for a fee of approximately €55 million (£47 million), Monaco withdrew from the deal after the deadline.
Reports indicate the U-turn was triggered by developments regarding Monaco's other transfer targets. Specifically, a proposed move for Folarin Balogun to Everton reportedly hit complications, leading Monaco to reconsider selling Camara. Chelsea officials expressed extreme frustration, describing Monaco's conduct as “deeply unprofessional” given that a written agreement and medical examinations were already in progress.
The Camara deal was intended to serve as a replacement for Enzo Fernández, who is nearing a high-profile move to Manchester City. While the collapse of the Camara transfer has disrupted Chelsea's midfield restructuring, the club has been linked to other potential targets, including Manu Kone from AS Roma.
