Chelsea targets Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong

Chelsea FC is reportedly preparing a significant move to sign Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong during the upcoming January transfer window. The London club views the 29-year-old Dutch international as a key target to strengthen their midfield and potentially serve as a successor to Enzo Fernández.

Barcelona has set a high asking price for the player, reportedly requiring a minimum bid of £50 million (approximately €59.2 million) to consider a sale. This figure sits above De Jong’s estimated transfer value of roughly €38.2 million. Despite the high valuation, Chelsea is considering offering a lucrative contract to entice the midfielder, whose current deal with the Catalan club runs until mid-2029.

Under the management of Xabi Alonso, Chelsea is looking to restructure its squad and bolster its central midfield. While De Jong has faced challenges with physical consistency in recent seasons, his vision and ball distribution remain highly regarded by the Premier League side.
