Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso confirms Enzo Fernandez sale to Manchester City
Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has confirmed his involvement in the £125 million sale of Enzo Fernandez to Manchester City, which was finalized just before the September 1 transfer deadline. Alonso stated that the decision was made collaboratively with the club board to prioritize the team's long-term spirit and squad structure.
Despite the significant windfall, Chelsea failed to secure a direct replacement for Fernandez before the window closed. A planned £42 million deal for Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara collapsed late in the window after the Ligue 1 club abruptly cancelled the agreement.
As a result, Chelsea will look to Romeo Lavia to fill the void in the short term. The club is also reportedly monitoring PSG’s Warren Zaire-Emery as a potential long-term target to bolster their midfield options.
