Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso targets Fermín López in potential 140m euro move

Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has expressed direct interest in Barcelona midfielder Fermín López, viewing him as a priority for his project. Reports suggest Chelsea is prepared to offer up to 140 million euros to secure the player in January, a figure intended to test Barcelona's resolve. While Barcelona's management and coach Hansi Flick have indicated they do not wish to sell the player, his market valuation has risen significantly from 40 million euros a year ago.

In team news, Alonso confirmed that Moises Caicedo will miss the upcoming Premier League match against Hull City due to injury. The club is prioritizing caution with the player's recovery. Additionally, new signings Jordan Henderson, Emmanuel Emegha, and Marco Palestra remain sidelined, with availability for the Brentford match uncertain. Meanwhile, winger Pedro Neto has signed a contract extension with Chelsea running until 2032.
