Chelsea signs French defender Maxence Lacroix for €60 million

Chelsea Football Club announced the signing of 26‑year‑old French centre‑back Maxence Lacroix from Crystal Palace. The transfer fee was reported at about €60 million (roughly £52 million) and the defender signed a six‑year contract that runs until June 2032.

Lacroix, a France international with seven caps who played three matches at the 2026 World Cup, made 98 appearances for Palace, helping the club win the UEFA Conference League, the FA Cup and the Community Shield. The move is Chelsea’s third summer acquisition under new manager Xabi Alonso, who took charge for the 2026/27 season. The club also indicated that veteran midfielders Danny Welbeck and Jordan Henderson are near completion of deals, further strengthening the squad.

Chelsea described Lacroix as a commanding and athletic defender and said he shares the same vision and ambition as the manager to win trophies.
