Premier League transfer race 2026: Palace rebuild continues

Overview

Crystal Palace’s squad rebuilding efforts have accelerated following a difficult 2-0 Premier League defeat to Everton in their opener. The loss, which marked a challenging debut for manager Pierre Sage, coincided with a knee injury to Morocco international Chadi Riad that required him to be carried off on a stretcher.

To address defensive shortages following Maxence Lacroix’s departure to Chelsea and Riad’s injury, the club secured the season-long loan of 28-year-old French defender Axel Disasi from Chelsea for the 2026/27 campaign. The agreement contains no option or obligation for a permanent purchase. Disasi, who has five senior caps for France, expressed enthusiasm for the move, stating he “looks forward to playing at Selhurst Park.”

As the transfer window approached its close, Palace finalized several significant moves. The club completed the permanent signings of England international Ben Chilwell from RC Strasbourg and 25-year-old Netherlands international Quinten Timber from Marseille, who joins on a five-year contract. Additionally, the club secured Chilean winger Dario Osorio on a season-long loan from FC Midtjylland.

In midfield, the club has also remained in advanced discussions regarding 23-year-old Algerian international Farès Chaïbi from Eintracht Frankfurt. While interest has been shown by Brighton, Newcastle, Aston Villa, and Brentford, negotiations with Palace are reportedly the most concrete. Frankfurt is expected to value the player between €25 million and €30 million.
