Cheniere Energy expands US liquefied natural gas export capacity
Cheniere Energy, the largest exporter of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in the United States, is seeing record export volumes driven by strong global demand from Europe and Asia. The company is currently undergoing significant terminal expansions at its Sabine Pass and Corpus Christi facilities on the Gulf Coast.
The Port of Corpus Christi reported a 46.2 percent year-on-year increase in LNG volumes during the third quarter. Regarding these expansions, the US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has released a final environmental impact statement for the Sabine Pass Stage 5 project and a draft statement for the Corpus Christi Stage IV project. FERC noted that while construction and operation would result in ‘some adverse environmental effects,’ these would be reduced to ‘less-than-significant levels.’
