Cheniere Energy LNG export capacity expansion

Overview

Cheniere Energy is undergoing significant terminal expansions at its Sabine Pass and Corpus Christi facilities on the US Gulf Coast to meet high global demand from Europe and Asia.

Federal regulators have issued a Final Environmental Impact Statement for the Sabine Pass Stage V expansion, which intends to add 19.5 million tons of annual LNG production through new liquefaction trains and a pipeline system. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) determined that while the project would cause ‘some adverse environmental effects,’ these could be mitigated to ‘less-than-significant levels.’

In addition to the Sabine Pass project, FERC has released a draft environmental statement for the Corpus Christi Stage IV project. The Port of Corpus Christi has already reported a 46.2 percent year-on-year increase in LNG volumes during the third quarter.
