Chennai and surrounding districts face rain and thunderstorms

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has predicted moderate rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds for Chennai and several surrounding districts. This forecast is due to a weak low-pressure system forming in the lower atmospheric layers near the Tamil Nadu coast.

Rain is expected in Chennai, Chengalpattu, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram, and Ranipet through Sunday. Additionally, heavy rainfall is anticipated in the hilly areas of Coimbatore and Nilgiris on August 24 and 25. Residents and travelers in these regions are advised to remain cautious regarding potential waterlogging or obstructions.

While much of Tamil Nadu may remain dry or partly cloudy, the Western Ghats are expected to see light to moderate rain between August 26 and 27. In Chennai and coastal districts, high temperatures and humidity may cause discomfort, though evening thunderstorms could provide temporary relief from the heat.
