Tamil Nadu's Western Ghats expected light‑moderate rain while most of the state stays dry
India's Meteorological Department says isolated to moderate showers are likely in the Western Ghats districts of Tamil Nadu from July 13 through July 18, with rain persisting in the hills until about July 16. The rainfall is linked to variations in the speed of prevailing westerly winds.
Elsewhere in Tamil Nadu, as well as in Puducherry and Karaikal, the weather will remain largely dry. Daytime temperatures are forecast 2‑4 °C above seasonal averages, reaching 38‑39 °C in Chennai, and humidity will stay high, increasing the risk of heat‑related discomfort. Officials have urged people, especially children, seniors and those with pre‑existing conditions, to stay hydrated, limit exposure to direct sunlight during peak hours and drink plenty of water.
The forecast also includes a warning for fishermen in the central‑eastern Arabian Sea, where winds may reach up to 55 km/h until Wednesday. The department will continue to monitor conditions and issue further advisories as needed.
